Looking Ahead
I’ve been doing some preliminary work on finally committing to the weight loss battle and gettin’ er done. I am scoping out medical help this time. It is a hard thing for me to admit because I have always maintained that a person can do anything they set their mind to, and that there isn’t any magical formula to weight loss, just hard work and determination. However, life isn’t as easy as it once was. It holds many more challenges for me than it did, and I am grateful for them all, but I just may need help to lick this.
So, in a couple of weeks, I’ll be seeing my friendly neighborhood internist. I don’t have a lot of high hopes since she is part of my socialized medicine clinic HMO, and they have already figured out that prevention costs a lot more than treating whatever disease may or may not ever arise from my severe obesity. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.) I think in order to get what I really want, I’ll have to go to the free market system of a medical weight loss clinic. So, my next step will be to set up a consultation with a local clinic here and see what they have to offer.
Unfortunately, none of it really feels right. But, neither does the way I feel being this overweight, so I guess I’ll just make the choice to start SOMETHING and go from there.
