Tidy Spice
No, not the name of the newest member of the infamous girl group, but my activity for the morning.
Matt and I went through all of the spices and discarded all of the expired ones. (Yes, we know that they don’t actually “go bad” but they do lose their flavor, and we are passionate about cooking.)

Unfortunately, there were quite a few.
Next I made a spreadsheet of all of the spices with the expiration dates. This way, we can consult the list whenever we go shopping so we know which ones we need to buy. Then I organized the spices into two categories. Baking spices went into the pantry, and the cooking spices in the cabinet. I arranged them in a nifty pull-down rack we got some time ago at the Container Store. Because I was feeling particularly anal, I did it in alphabetical order.

And then I printed out the list and posted it on the inside of the cabinet door.

It took about 20 minutes to do, and now we have a really well organized spice cabinet and will be ready to cook our next gourmet creation!
