Success!
Cookies are hard to bake. Maybe it is because we live at high altitude, or maybe it is because I sort of suck at baking, (because I don’t like having to be precise) or maybe I think it is a heck of a lot of work and I have other things to do. No matter the reason, they are hard for me to make.
The last time I attempted to make cut-out sugar cookies was sometime in the 90′s, I think 1997 or 1998, and I got so frustrated that I ended up heaving the mess of dough at the wall and I’m pretty sure that was the same year with the “broken wooden spoon because I let the fudge get to hard” incident.
So, when Christian kept bugging asking me to make cookies with him, my stomach got all twirly and I felt this deep fear that it would surely be a big failure and I would end up with more dough on the wall.
However, I have prevailed!!!
We had a great time AS A FAMILY! making cookies together.
Best of all, I was able to let go of my perfection complex. (More on this in a future post.)
They weren’t PERFECT, but who cares. You can see in the picture with Matt and Christian that we made a royal mess, but, it got cleaned up! What a wonderful experience to share together and what an awesome affirmation to me that I can do this mothering thing and do it well.

Yay! They look so great, too! I will miss you while we’re away but I am very much looking forward to your jewelry party in Jan!
