Thanksgiving 2008
We had a nice little Thanksgiving yesterday. Matt and I prepared our meal together and had lots of fun playing with Lily in between preparation. It really was sort of bliss. The only thing missing was my beloved Christian, but that is the really suckalicious thing about being divorced and sharing custody.
I set the table all romantic with candles and everything:

We made so many yummy dishes!
First the turkey. We got it from Sunflower Farmer’s Market. It was the first time we had ever had a fresh turkey. We brined it over night and then roasted to golden brown perfection:

Matt did a lovely job of carving it:

Of course, we had mashed potatoes whipped with butter and half and half:

and giblet gravy:

and cornbread and sausage stuffing. I made this in the crock pot this year and was very pleased with the results:

Then, of course, green bean casserole!

And, just one more thing, weeping salad. This is my own personal favorite. My cousin was always responsible for bringing it and I absolutely love it. Iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese, bacon, mayo, red onion and sugar. It is called “weeping” salad because the sugar causes the onions to “weep” and their juice mixes with the mayo to make a delicious dressing:

Here’s the whole spread:

Wait…..there’s always room for PIE!!

Obviously we had a lot of great food and it was all so delicious. But the best part was just getting to enjoy a dinner made by the two of us and enjoyed in peace and in each other’s company. We missed our families of course, but it was a lovely way for us to celebrate together and know that we are all we need.
Now, off to deal with leftovers. Matt is trying his hand at making a turkey frame soup with leftover stuffing dumplings! Yum!
